Serving Those Who Served — Expanded VA Benefits Now Cover More Support Options
Veterans Deserve the Best Care — and Easier Access to It
If you or a loved one are a VA-connected Veteran, you may now be eligible for up to 16 hours of non-medical in-home care per week, or up to 28 hours for those on hospice — all billed directly through the VA.
Institute on Aging is proud to support Veterans through two trusted programs:
-
Support at Home – personalized in-home care to assist with daily activities, companionship, and peace of mind for caregivers.
-
Compania at IOA’s Enrichment Center – weekday programs designed for Veterans and adults living with dementia, featuring cognitive activities, social engagement, and a safe, structured environment.
How VA-Covered Home Care Works
There are two primary ways Veterans can access covered home care services through the VA:
- Physician Recommendation: Your VA primary care physician or care team recommends home care. A VA social worker connects you with local providers like IOA, and the VA covers the cost directly.
- Veteran Request: You can ask your VA primary care provider directly about receiving home care from IOA. Once approved, the VA will coordinate with us to start your services.
